    Short Introduction

    The Summer School is primarily addressed to researchers and professionals interested in the most recent advances on assistive and rehabilitation technologies for the neuro-motor function. The program will include topics as portable   sensors  and   systems,   wireless communications, biofeedback devices, Virtual Reality-based systems. Several round table discussions and an industry corner will give to all the participants the opportunity to be introduced to different applications.

    Welcome Address:

    Dear Participants,

    The opening of the School is rapidly approaching (Sunday 18th) and, with all the organizing staff, we are everyday more and more involved to get everything ready for hosting all of you
    with the traditional warm hospitality of Bologna and its province and make you feel as at home.

    We would like to welcome you all with an invitation: *be prepared to be surprised!*
    By the scientific value of the speakers, by the people you will meet here, by the landscapes your eyes will see, by the flavours of our food and wine...

    As a *first surprise*, we hope you will appreciate our choice to offer you, during this week, a unique experience in an Italian countryside, where nature, historical traditions and the seasonal events still have a strong influence on the daily life.
    Big towns and civilization are just few kilometers away but we will be staying (and please be prepared for that) in the countryside: you will be lodging in small but beautiful farmhouses, some of which are buildings of historical relevance, spread in a relatively large hilly area in the Monte San Pietro territory. There you will mostly see vineyards, cherry-trees, calanques, and woods around you...

    but you may then discover (*a second surprise*) that in such a rural environment you may even encounter manufacturer of technological excellence that are renown and market leader worldwide.

    As a *third surprise* (please don't cry!), I anticipate you that hardly you will find an high-speed ADSL connection, and only in some of the farmhouses you may arrange with the hosting family some 56K-navigations. Also at the School venue in Tenuta Bonzara, Internet will not be available.
    We will suggest you some opportunities along the week to check your email but please prepare your colleagues and email penpals to your poor responsiveness (unless you have a wireless connection through your mobile phone).

    A *fourth surprise* is due to our geography. The peak and valley nature of our territory and its distance from mass tourism is such that every morning and every evening you may have an up-to-30-minutes trip between the seats of the course and your farmhouse.
    We are sure this small inconvenience will be rewarded by the excellence of our hosts and their gorgeous breakfasts!

    At last, a *fiftth surprise* will involve your sense of taste. In fact, we are arranging a variegated program of food and wine tastings, around the ancient and prestigious food- and wine-related traditions of our region.

    * * Be prepared to be surprised! * *
